The Fiji Roads Authority has identified the roads in rural areas which will be upgraded for easy access to people.
Chairman, Dinesh Patel says for a very long time rural dwellers were facing a lot of problems during rainy weather especially students when they had to walk to school on the muddy pathway.
Patel says people will be relieved after the completion of the project.
Some of the roads in the Central Division include Waivou Dairy Farm Road, Lakena Irrigation Road, Vunidawa Crossing and Bau Road, while Eastern Division roads include, Nabukalevu-i-Ra Road in Kadavu, Levuka Bridge and Lakeba Airport Crossing.
FRA says for easy access to farmers and school students some of the roads that will undergo construction in the Western Division include Waimari Crossing in Rakiraki, Kavanagasau Road in Sigatoka, Vagadra Access Road in Nadi, and Korolevu Jetty while in the Northern Division Dreketilailai Road in Dreketi , Sese Road in Bua, Vatubogi Bridge in Lekutu, Seaqaqa Government Station Naduri Road and Korotari Road in Labasa will be developed.
Patel says work on some roads has already started.
The Fiji Roads Authority together with the Ministry of Rural and Maritime, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources signed a three year agreement to develop and upgrade the roads in the rural areas.
The Ministry of Finance has given $50 million for the project.
