Fiji National University’s Media and Journalism program now falls under the new Department of Communication and Media in the College of Humanities and Education.
When Fijivillage had asked about the university’s journalism programmes which have not been offered for some time, Vice Chancellor Nigel Healey says some cognate departments have been merged to eliminate the duplication of administrative work and improve operational efficiency.
Vice Chancellor Healey says a significant amount of work is underway to refresh the Certificate IV in Media and Journalism programme and the College is optimistic it will be offered from Semester 1 in 2019.
He says the College is developing an all‑new Bachelor of Communication and Media Studies which is in progress and they are working towards it being offered from next year.
Meanwhile, the Fiji National University Council has approved the construction of a purpose‑built Creative Arts Building at their Nasinu campus.
Fijivillage had asked about the maintenance of the Raiwai Campus which was destroyed during Cyclone Winston in 2016.
Healey says no decision has been made on the Raiwai structure as yet however, concept drawings of the Creative Arts Building for Nasinu campus have been prepared.
