The Fiji National University has recently started sub-leasing part of its land in Navua.
FNU’s Chancellor and Chair, Ikbal Jannif announced this at the FNU Campus in Koronivia this morning during the opening of their Open Day.
Jannif says they will be subleasing their land in Navua to several professional entities who will be running commercial operations in rice farming, prawn farming, dairy farming and vegetable and root crop farming.
He says the main condition will be that the operators will have to allow FNU staff and students to visit the farms for teaching and learning purposes.
FNU had revealed to Fijivillage earlier that it had acquired 2,800 acres of land in Navua.
Grace Road Food Company is one of the operators currently undertaking large scale rice farming in Navua.
Group President, Daniel Kim also donated a tractor to the FNU Koronivia campus today.
Meanwhile, the FNU Open Day in Koronivia will run till tomorrow afternoon and close to 40 schools from Nausori and Nasinu are expected to visit various booths.
Agriculture Minister, Inia Seruiratu officially opened FNU’s Open Day this morning.
