The Fiji National Provident Fund has supported an initiative by the New Zealand High Commission to raise funds for a St Christopher’s Home project, which is to build a boys’ home.
The initiative, which was a Valentine Gala Dinner, was held in February to raise funds for the construction of a boys’ home and the total amount that was raised was $103,000.
The dinner was hosted by the New Zealand High Commissioner Jonathan Curr at his residence at Ratu Sukuna Road, Suva.
St Christopher’s Sister in Charge Kalolaine Tuineau says the home will cater for boys between 12‑18 years.
She says the St Christopher’s Home is only able to keep girls at the home after they turn 12 years old, however the boys are sent to the Veilomani Boys Home in Ba.
Sister Kalo says that it was always heartbreaking when boys had to part from their siblings when they turn 12 years old and it was for that reason, the Home decided to construct a separate house for the boys.
