Fiji Labour Party Leader Mahendra Chaudhry said they will set up a National Service Scheme for all those who are unemployed after completing their studies if the FLP forms the next government.
Chaudhry told about 40 people at their campaign meeting at Riverside road Narere that they will involve all the unemployed people in national and community work and these people will also be paid for their work.
He said countries like Australia and New Zealand provide allowances to unemployed people and here in Fiji they are intending to start something similar on a small scale.
He said this scheme will also allow the unemployed youth to further their studies after looking at their interests.
Chaudhry said unemployed youth will be part of the scheme for two or three years and they should get employed by then.
Furthermore, Chaudhry told people that they will also set up agricultural states for those who are interested in farming.
He said three to five acres of land will be given for farming which will also come with a house.
Chaudhry confirms that the Government will provide a subsidy on the houses and people will then slowly pay for the loan.
He says people living in squatter settlements will be able to take advantage of this scheme who is interested in farming.
The actual allocation of funds for such initiatives has not been revealed.
