FICAC has today withdrawn one count of abuse of office against a former employee of the Ministry of Finance Iliesa Waqavonovono.
Waqavonovono is now charged with one count of Falsification of Documents and one count of Obtaining Financial Advantage.
Waqavonovono is also charged with one count of Abuse of Office.
He has pleaded guilty to these charges.
It is alleged that Waqavonovono between 1st January and 31st August last year, while being employed as a clerical officer retained two BSP cheques in his personal possession which had a total value of $67,998.
These cheques were being refunded to the Ministry of Finance.
It is also alleged that Waqavonovono between 1st March and 31st August last year, dishonestly falsified three cheques totaling $57,409 with the intention of obtaining a gain from the Ministry of Finance.
Waqavonovono also allegedly obtained a financial advantage amounting to the total sum of $57,409 from the Ministry of Finance between 1st March and 31st August last year by falsifying three government BSP cheques.
The case has been adjourned to the 22nd of this month.
