FICAC appeal in Doctor Mahendra Reddy case dismissed

High Court Judge Justice Vinsent Perera has dismissed the appeal made by FICAC in the case of Former Education Minister Doctor Mahendra Reddy.

In his ruling, Justice Perera said the Magistrate was not misconceived.

Justice Perera said he is unable to agree with the submission made by FICAC that the Magistrate failed to consider the statement made by Doctor Reddy in its totality.

The Judge also said that he agrees with the conclusion of the Magistrate that there is no evidence that the political rights of Waisea Lebobo was interfered with.

He said the response that was given by Doctor Reddy did not intend to influence Lebobo.

Reddy was found not guilty of a count each of bribery and undue influence by Chief Magistrate Usaia Ratuvili.
