The Fiji Electricity Authority has received seven trucks from the Energy Networks Association of Australia to help replace damaged power poles and lines following Cyclone Winston.
While handing over the trucks, Acting Australian High Commissioner Karina D’Aloi-sio says the seven trucks include crane borers, elevated work platforms and a general service vehicle.
D’Aloi-sio says it also includes more than $400,000 worth of specialised tools and equipment such as electrical testing equipment, hydraulic cutting tools, drills and pole saws.
She hopes the donation by the Energy Networks Association of Australia will encourage other business to business collaboration.
While receiving the donations, Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Parveen Bala says the gift to FEA will not only assist in the restoration of power supply but will also go a long way in assisting with the roll out of the Rural Electrification Program.
Meanwhile, about 9,000 families are yet to have electricity after Cyclone Winston.
