The Fiji Electricity Authority has brought in four new diesel generators to reduce power cuts in the Central Division.
FEA’s General Manager Major Projects, Fatiaki Gibson said the four generators will be installed at the Kinoya station as the demand of power in the Central Division is high.
He added that the cost of the project is $73 million which includes getting the generators from Finland and installing it at the station.
Gibson said the installation contract has been given to Pernix Fiji Limited and they are looking at the full generation of the power from the new generators to the FEA grid by the 1st of October.
Gibson said these diesel generators are brought in with heavy fuel oil which is much cheaper fuel source for FEA in supplying the electricity.
The four generators weighing 139 tonnes each are been taken from the Suva wharf to Fiji Electricity Authority’s Kinoya station.
People are advised that Edinburgh Drive, Princes Road, Khalsa Road and Ratu Dovi Road will be closed at certain times from today till Saturday to allow the transportation of these generators to the FEA Kinoya site.
