Along with building our resilience to climate change, the expansion of Fiji's trade with the rest of the world is among my government's top priorities.
These were the words of the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama at the opening of the Fiji‑Queensland Trade and Investment Symposium in Stamford Hotel in Brisbane today.
Bainimarama says the key objective of the symposium is to highlight the significant untapped potential that exists in the Fiji‑Queensland relationship and areas in which they can work together and provide tailor‑made investment solutions to benefit both the economies.
He says the time to invest in Fiji and expand trade has never been better.
The Prime Minister adds that the government has unified our nation, given every Fijian a common identity and strengthened the institutions.
He says with the consistent policies based on fairness, inclusion and empowerment, they have put an end to the years of instability and uncertainty and have set Fiji on a new course.
Bainimarama says as a government, they have their eyes firmly set on sustainable economic growth and on achieving greatness.
He says Fijians and Queenslanders do not just share a deep love of sport as they genuinely like each other and share some very important characteristics, they are friendly, open, caring and unpretentious, down to earth and he says both Fijians and Queenslanders do not like bullshit.
He says if there is one place in the world where he knows he can be Frank by name and frank by nature, it's in Brisbane.
Meanwhile there were five people protesting against the Fijian government outside the symposium venue.
The five protestors included former government minister, Kenneth Zinck.
