Exchanging of information by Fiji and other countries is important as it can help in combatting transnational crimes in Fiji.
Minister for Defence, National Security and Immigration Timoci Natuva said the ministry has developed a working relationship with stakeholders within Fiji and worldwide agencies like INTERPOL.
He mentioned this in parliament after FijiFirst MP Alexander O’Connor asked Natuva on what the Fiji Police Force and his ministry are doing to combat the recent influx of drug importation into or through Fiji.
Natuva said collaboration with local and overseas law enforcement resulted in the confiscation of a container that contained about $100 million worth of drugs.
Opposition MP Salote Radrodro then asked Natuva about the problems or weaknesses with the FRCA border control capabilities and how does the ministry intend to enhance border protection.
Natuva said they are buying new equipment.
He added that they are in the process of trying to improve on what they have at the border as they cannot control everything.
