Current estimates show that approximately 12% of Fiji’s adult population have some form of insurance cover.
This was highlighted prior to the launch of a six‑week insurance awareness campaign conducted in Fiji.
Governor of the Fiji Reserve Bank, Barry Whiteside says that the campaign is about raising awareness and the understanding of insurance.
Whiteside says that according to the impact assessment of the campaign, the public awareness and understanding of insurance has clearly improved.
He adds that this campaign has been a big success and the results are very promising.
Whiteside says that after six weeks, the research showed that 2 out of 3 people interviewed had seen or heard of the campaign and they felt that it was appealing, relevant and persuasive.
Speaking on behalf Pacific Financial Inclusion Program, Michael Carr noted that the research shows people who say they know and understand a lot about insurance has doubled from 14% before the campaign to 29% afterwards.
Carr says that this is an impressive change, but ultimately it is about getting more people insured and protected.
The campaign is the first of its type in Fiji and is a joint initiative of the Reserve Bank of Fiji, the Pacific Financial Inclusion Programme and the Insurance Council of Fiji.
