Niko Levula who escaped from the Suva Court House yesterday appeared in the Suva Magistrates Court this morning charged with escaping from lawful custody.
Levula has asked for legal aid assistance.
He has also been handed over to the Fiji Corrections Service to serve his sentence of 20 years imprisonment which was handed down in absentia by High Court Judge Justice Salesi Temo yesterday.
Levula was re‑captured by Police in Jittu Estate after using a taxi as a getaway vehicle.
Police are conducting an internal investigation in relation to the incident.
The case has been adjourned to 6th March for plea.
