The Minister for Finance and Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum has talked about the need for more investment in human capital at the National Budget consultations in the Western Division.
Speaking at Natabua High School, Sayed-Khaiyum said while there may be positive economic growth in the country there are still a number of legal, social and economic issues that we need to improve.
He said the government is focused on creating sustainable employment for ordinary Fijians in the aftermath of Cyclone Winston.
Sayed-Khaiyum also said we need to increase the rate of home-ownership to solve the huge housing problem especially in squatter settlements.
The Minister for Finance continued to stress that the 2017 National Budget would be focused on developing a broader based economy and that they are prioritizing funding for policies focused on boosting our climate resilience and rebuilding from the cyclone.
He also said that Fiji has been neglecting the maintaining of its assets over the years.
The government fiscal year will now begin from August 1st and end on July 31st.
