Employment Ministry aim to reduce unemployment to below 4% in the coming 20 years

With the National Development Plan in place, the Ministry for Employment’s objective is reducing unemployment to below 4% in the coming 20 years.

This was highlighted by the Minister for Employment Jone Usamate at the opening of the Mediation Training who says this is in line with governments commitment in they forward looking 5 year and 20-year plan with a vision of transforming Fiji.

Usamate says while having this Plan in place, they must continue to improve upon the Industrial Relations despite conflict resolution system in place.

He says they will continue to undertake efforts to improve the labour market standard to meet accredited international best practices including the fostering of a modern workforce.

According to the Fiji Bureau of Statistics, Fiji’s unemployment rate decreased to 5.5% in 2015 and 2016 from 7.1% in 2010 and 2011.
