It was an emotional day for Michael Fong as he was given a hero’s welcome at the Warwick Hotel in Sigatoka this morning.
Fong who is walking and partially cycling around Viti Levu to raise funds for children with heart problems arrived in Sigatoka last night after his first day of the walk from Suva.
He said the Warwick staff prepared a goody-bag with drinks, food and donations for him.
Fong said he was greeted with well wishes at every step of the way and more generous individuals extended their hand to him and gave him words of support and encouragement.
Michael Fong said this walk is in memory of his son Brian Fong who tragically passed away in 1998 due to a congenital heart defect.
Fong, working in partnership with his employer, Pernix Fiji Limited and the Children's Heart Foundation has so far received $1,000 each from Vodafone Fiji Limited, Coca‑Cola Amatil Fiji, Total Fiji and the Ministry for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation.
He added that potential corporate houses who are willing to donate at least $1,000 each can directly deposit the money to the Children’s Heart Foundation, ANZ account number 8663696.
