The Electoral Commission is working with the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption to immediately investigate and finalize all the complaints in relation to elections.
This was revealed by the Electoral Commission’s Chair, Suresh Chandra who says they had a meeting with FICAC yesterday.
Chandra says the Electoral Commission has over a period of time noted through the media, social media as well as from direct feedback that there are reports of representatives from Political Parties, particularly in pocket meetings, involved in religious vilification and campaigns creating racial tension.
Chandra has urged political parties to keep election campaigns clean and clear from religious vilification and racial discrimination.
The Chair has said that FICAC has given an assurance that they will deal with these types of complaints expediently and take cases to court where they find there is sufficient evidence to support a charge.
Members of the public who are present in such meetings and instances are requested to use their smart phones to record such behaviour and furnish the same to the Electoral Commission or to FICAC directly.
