Electoral Commission meets with UN Resident Coordinator to discuss partnership for 2018 elections

The Electoral Commission Chairman, Suresh Chandra has met with UN Resident Coordinator Osnat Lubrani to discuss partnership opportunities for the upcoming General Election next year.

Chandra informed Lubrani on the success of the 2014 General Elections and how they were gearing up for 2018.   

Chandra says he also updated Lubrani about the Commission’s recent announcement on its position on the Multi National Observer Group Report and the Electoral Commission Report of 2014.

He says they have implemented up to 19 recommendations from the Multi National Observer Group report and disagreed with 10 recommendations and nine for which they do not have any power.

Chandra also stressed the partnership to be created between the Commission and the United Nations Development Programme to enhance electoral capacities of ordinary Fijians as well as the Fijian Elections Office.
