The Electoral Commission has decided to exclude the number '666' from the list of numbers in the 2018 General Election ballot paper.
In explaining the decision, Chairperson Suresh Chandra states that they were alerted to various issues regarding the controversial number including religious and other historical issues so they wrote to all the registered political parties to consult them on the possibility of removing the number from the ballot paper.
The decision comes into effect immediately from January 18th 2018 and as part of the decision, the Electoral Commission has instructed the Supervisor of Elections to remove the number accordingly.
