The Fijian Elections Office has received a total of 243 nominations from 6 political parties for the 2018 General Elections.
Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem says the six nominations that were rejected have been replaced by the political parties.
FijiFirst General Secretary Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum has submitted the final nomination to replace Naziah Ali who was disqualified last week. Sayed-Khaiyum handed in the nomination of registered valuer, Sanjay Kirpal.
The National Federation Party has also filed their final nomination after Feroz Mohammed was disqualified.
They have submitted land surveyor, Himayat Ali’s nomination.
SODELPA has also submitted one nomination after Adi Narayan’s disqualification. SODELPA has submitted businessman, Nilesh Jaduram’s nomination.
The Supervisor says that FijiFirst, SODELPA and NFP have filed 51 nominations, Fiji Labour Party has submitted 25 nominations, Unity Fiji has given 31 names while HOPE Party has submitted 28 names.
Saneem says that there was some hold up with the nominations for the Unity Fiji Party as they were short by $500. They paid the $500 before midday.
He says that they are hoping to announce the list of approved candidates by later tonight.
