The election of the new President of the Methodist Church in Fiji will be top of the agenda at the Annual Conference today.
Secretary of Communications, Reverend James Bhagwan said the position was left vacant after the sudden passing away of Reverend Tuikilakila Waqairatu earlier this year.
Reverend Bhagwan said the interim President Reverend Laisiasa Ratabacaca is ineligible to apply for the position as he is a retired church minister and he is over 70 years old.
He said under the Methodist church constitution any ordained minister who has served more than 10 years is eligible to contest the President’s post.
1,000 church delegates are expected to attend the week-long Annual Conference.
The conference will be opened by Reverend Ratabacaca at the Centenary Church in Suva today.
