A major step has been taken to see that persons with disabilities are properly equipped to vote in the next general elections with disabled friendly awareness.
The Fijian Elections Office has signed a terms of reference with the Pacific Disability Forum and Fiji National Council for Disabled Persons.
Supervisor of Elections, Mohammed Saneem says they have signed with specialised disability representative groups which will allow them to develop their materials over the next two years for the specialised communities.
Meanwhile, the Executive Director of Fiji National Council for Disabled Persons, Sitiveni Yanuyanutawa says the Fijian Elections Office has finally taken notice of the plight of the persons with disabilities.
He says these small things will make people with disabilities vote correctly and also to make the polling stations more accessible to them.
Attorney General and Minister for Elections, Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum officiated at the Elections Disability Access Working Group Terms of Reference signing ceremony.
