An elderly woman in her 80s has passed away after she was involved in a road accident.
The victim was from Vuci Road, Nausori and a passenger in a vehicle driven by a 25-year-old woman from Nadi.
Police say they were travelling with another woman to Nadi when it is alleged the driver lost control of the vehicle while trying to negotiate a bend along Komave, Sigatoka causing it to veer off the road and hit a tree.
The victim was rushed to the Sigatoka Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
The driver and one other passenger were treated for minor injuries and discharged.
The driver remains in custody.
The road death toll currently stands at 15 compared to 11 for the same period last year.
