Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts Dr Mahendra Reddy said children will live in fear if corporal punishment is practiced in schools.
During his first visit to the Northern Division, Dr Reddy stressed that his ministry will not tolerate corporal punishment in schools.
He added that at this day and age children should be moulded, shaped and handled with care.
He said that corporal punishment will discourage students from attending school.
Reddy also stressed that the quality of education schools provide should ensure that children gain wisdom and knowledge.
