The Education Ministry has taken full responsibility of necessary works that needs to be carried out next to Gram Sangathan School at Buiduna, Nausori where a major landslide took place on Monday.
Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Iowane Tiko has confirmed this saying they are now getting quotes from the contractors to construct a retaining wall.
Tiko says work at the site will commence as soon as the contractor is confirmed.
He says students at the school are safe as they have been moved from the area where the landslide took place.
School’s Manager, Ravindra Prasad had told us earlier that the landslide took place just next to a classroom block which has four classrooms.
He says they had written to the Fiji Roads Authority and the Ministry of Education last year about putting a retaining wall as landslides at this site has been taking place from early last year.
