The Minister for Education is looking forward to the day when the Unions will submit him a list of teachers names from their members who are not performing and should be demoted or disciplined for shortchanging the employer, the students and bringing disrepute to the profession.
While speaking at the Fijian Teachers Association 2015 Conference, Mahendra Reddy challenged all teacher unions in Fiji to establish awards for best teachers, to establish awards and recognize achievers and leaders who have raised the performance of their schools and identify poor performers and provide counselling and caution letters to those who are not at par to what they expect of them.
Reddy stressed that the teachers should stand up and say no to absenteeism, unprofessional conduct, poor teaching and delivery and poor delivery of learning outcomes and pass rates.
Reddy highlights they are now revising the Annual Performance Assessment Forms which will have 20 % evaluation from the teachers supervisors, 20% evaluation from their students and 60% evaluation will be based on the academic achievement of their students.
He added that the salary brackets of those that perform exceptionally well will increase and once they reach the highest bracket, they will then be paid on a one off bonus.
