The Eastern Minibuses Association is urging the Land Transport Authority and the Minister for Transport to look into their grievances and increase the mini bus fare by 50 cents from Suva to Nausori.
The current fare is $1.50.
Association’s President, Naresh Chand says they gave their submission to the LTA and Minister for Transport on the 21st March in 2016 however, they are yet to receive a feedback.
Chand says it has been over 18 years since mini bus service was legalized in Fiji and since then there has not been any increase in the fare.
He says the price of diesel has also tripled since then and their operational costs have gone up.
Chand adds that taxi and bus fares have been increased but mini bus fare has remained the same between Suva and Nausori.
He says they are requesting the LTA and the Minister for Transport to look into their grievance.
The association has more than 60 members.
We have sent questions to the LTA and a response is expected soon.
We are also trying to get a comment from Minister for Transport Parveen Bala.
