The Water Authority of Fiji says the dry weather conditions being experienced around the country may affect the supply of water in the coming months and a call has been made for people to use water sparingly.

Water Authority Board Chairman, Bhavesh Kumar says customers who are already facing a shortage of water are requested to use water wisely for their immediate needs during this dry period.

He says the Water Authority continues to monitor water levels in  reservoirs closely by recording changes to the consumption levels as rainfall remains below average in the western and northern parts of the country.

Kumar says for now, the water levels in the dams have not reached critical levels, but they continue to monitor them on a regular basis.

He says that the dry weather conditions in the Western and Northern division is getting bad as compared to Central division.

Authority’s General Manager Customer Services, Sekove Uluinayau  says the Authority will assist affected customers facing water shortages through water carting and other means.

Uluinayau says that the Authority has also reactivated its emergency toll‑free contact line 1507 where affected customers  can make their requests for water carting services.

The Authority says it has also released a water carting schedule where customers can track the days of the week and their areas and on when water carting trucks will be deployed.
