Minister for Agriculture Inia Seruiratu says dredging of the Sigatoka River is due to start this year.
Opposition member Viliame Gavoka asked in parliament today about what the ministry is doing about the dredging of the Sigatoka and Tuva river, as they are now very shallow and quickly flood during periods of rain, posing great threat to communities.
Seruiratu says the dredging was on hold because of Tropical Winston.
He says it will be done in three stages and they hope to extract about 1.2 million cubic metres of silt.
Seruiratu adds that Tuva river is a priority too and the scoping work is currently being undertaken by the ministry.
