“This is a proud moment for me, my family and the people of Lami as people of different races and ages now have a place to meet and participate in activities which can bring peace, harmony and unity.”
Those are the words of 74-year-old Bobby Tikaram during the official opening of the Tikaram Park in Lami.
Tikaram says the kids and senior citizens will be able to use the park to either meet or have gatherings and functions.
He says that his mother wished to donate the land to the Lami Town Council as a means of giving back to the community.
Tikaram says that youngsters also now have a way to abstain from criminal or life threatening activities as there is also a volleyball court in the Park.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama says Lami has attracted attention from the business community and from the many Fijians who have chosen to settle in Lami over the years.
Bainimarama says that the government has also overseen the construction of sporting facilities, courts and parks all throughout Fiji.
He says this is part of the governments campaign against the high prevalence of non-communicable diseases in Fiji.
The government has funded the project at Tikaram Park which has a volleyball court, kids playing area, senior citizens park and a podium for gatherings and functions.
