A task force of twelve agencies are now working together to prevent people from using the river and sea that has been affected by the waste water from the broken trunk line at four miles.
National Disaster Management Director Manasa Tagicakibau said the twelve agencies include the Ministry of Health, Department of Environment, Water Authority of Fiji, the Fiji Police Force, Ministry of Fisheries, Navy, and the Suva and Nasinu council.
Tagicakibau said the 12 agencies are continuously holding workshops from 6pm - 9pm daily throughout the settlements near the Suva Point area informing them about the impact of the spillage, the use of water system and the use of marine life for their food source.
He added that the Ministry of Fisheries are taking samples from the sea to view the impact of the wastewater in the marine life.
Tagicakibau said the agencies have also put out notices along the Nasese foreshore on the use of the sea for recreational activities.
He is urging the general public to take heed of the warning signs and not to use the sea or river until further notice.
