The Land and Water Resource Management Division at the Ministry of Agriculture is advising the public not to tamper with floodgates.
This follows concerns raised that floodgate structures are damaged due to personal conflicts amongst the farmers and also by fishermen who wish to catch fish and crabs.
The Drainage Board officials are monitoring the structures regularly to ensure these types of incidences are avoided.
The Ministry says drainage works are developed in the coastal low‑lying areas to protect seawater damaging the potential land suitable for agricultural purposes.
There are 52 drainage schemes with 73 floodgate structures which are developed in 8,500 hectares of low lying flat land suitable for Agricultural farming.
