Akbar made the comments during Diwali celebrations at the Senior Citizens Ba Community Centre.
She says senior citizens need to be cared within the boundaries of their homes.
She says as parents should teach the values of care and compassion to the younger generation and the message for this Diwali is that we should take time out to focus on our families.
Akbar says Diwali is a celebration that enables individuals to relook at their lives and how they can positively change their lives and that of their families.
