Discussions are still ongoing between the land owners and the Labasa Town Council to build a new fish market in Labasa Town.
Labasa Town Council’s CEO, Jitendra Prasad said the land where fish vendors are currently selling is not owned by the Town Council.
Prasad said they want to build a new fish market however they are waiting for the landowners to give approval for lease.
He said the fish vendors are currently using a temporary shed to sell their fish near Labasa River and that during rainy weather conditions they have to find shelter elsewhere.
Prasad said once they are given approval, they will work out the cost for the construction.
He is hopeful that work on the new project will start by the end of this year.
