The Methodist Church in Fiji conference will see another step forward for women in the church, with discussion to be held on deaconesses to be given the same pay as ordained ministers .
This has been revealed by the Methodist Church in Fiji Secretary for Communications Reverend James Bhagwan who says that this will be discussed during the Bose Ko Viti.
Reverend Bhagwan says in the revised constitution that came into effect in January this year, the role of the deaconesses and the ordained ministers both have equal standing in the church.
Reverend Bhagwan says the Methodist Church in Fiji has seen more interest in young women who are wanting to become Deaconesses.
The outgoing President of the Methodist Church in Fiji Dr. Tevita Banivanua has officially opened the Bose Ko Viti at the Centenary Church in Suva.
Banivanua has called on the new leadership to continue with the hard work and dedication that has been put in place by previous leaders.
He also called on the members of the Methodist Church to support the new initiative of the 10 cents per plastic bag because they were part of its establishment.
Banivanua also called for support of Fiji’s presidency at the COP23.
He also asked the members of conference to come up with new ideas that can help the church prosper.
The election of the new church office bearers will be held this afternoon.
