Assistant Minister for Health and Medical Services, Veena Bhatnagar said every day two people with diabetes lose part of their feet or even entire leg from diabetic infections.
The Ministry of Health and Medical Services has launched a Diabetic Foot Care Training Manual for Primary care Nurses to combat the challenge of the worsening problem of diabetes.
Bhatnagar said the challenge of combating the ever worsening problem of diabetes can only be attained by team effort and with this approach in mind, the Ministry of Health has teamed up with Diabetes Fiji and World Diabetes Federation for a four year foot care project.
Bhatnagar said as part of the four year project, a two week foot care course is being conducted for primary care nurses from various subdivisions.
She said the production of this manual is a milestone achievement in the developing care of the Diabetic patients.
The Assistant Minister is encouraging all the health workers to make the best use of this manual and to apply the lessons to assess, advice, educate and manage not just the patients with diabetes but the community members and themselves as well.
