33-year-old Deshwar Kishore Dutt who escaped from Police custody late last month, was caught early this morning when a team of Police officers foiled a robbery at a warehouse located along Nadi Back Road resulting in the arrest of four men this morning.
Police Chief Operations Officer ACP Rusiate Tudravu says the team made up of officers from the Western Division as well as K9 capabilities from the Fiji Corrections Services arrived at the scene of the incident where the four men including Dutt, were allegedly in the process of breaking into the warehouse.
ACP Tudravu says the officers had been gathering information over some time and moved in on the group early this morning.
All four suspects are being questioned at the Lautoka Police Station for their alleged involvement in other robberies in the division.
Deshwar Kishore Dutt was sentenced in absentia to 15 years imprisonment by Suva High Court Judge, Justice Salesi Temo.
He was convicted for two counts of aggravated robbery.
Dutt robbed two families in Samabula on 20th July 2014 and stole assorted items with a total value of $165,863.He can apply for parole after serving 14 years in jail.
The escorting officer Sepeti Tabaiwalu told High Court Judge Justice Salesi Temo that he was tying his shoe lace when Dutt ran away.
Tabaiwalu told the court that they looked around but could not find him.
