Acting Prime Minister Aiyaz Sayed‑Khaiyum says the reasons for the deportation of the two consultants of MWH was because of their actions in trying to make various threats to the Fiji Roads Authority.
Sayed‑Khaiyum says by doing this they breached the confidentiality provisions regarding the contractual obligations between MWH and FRA and trying to involve a third party.
He says FRA has an obligation to the tax payers of Fiji and requested various details in invoices from MWH, but their lawyers got involved.
Sayed‑Khaiyum says they obviously breached the terms and conditions of their work visa and they were subsequently sent out of Fiji.
He says FRA is dealing with the matter and they have a lawyer from an international law firm.
The Acting Prime Minister also confirmed that the dispute involved millions of dollars.
Sayed‑Khaiyum has also assured the local staff of MWH whose contracts have now ended sooner than expected, will be given the opportunity to apply for positions within FRA and those who meet the requirement will have that opportunity.
He also says that there will be no more dependency on consulting companies.
