The Department of Environment is yet to carry out an assessment of the accident scene of the overturned container truck that was carrying harmful chemicals.
Permanent Secretary Paul Bayly says they have been notified about the issue and will be looking into it.
Police say the truck was loaded with battery acid and the harmful substance from the truck may have entered the water.
The truck which was driven by a 21‑year‑old man was heading towards Wailada in Lami when the driver heard a sound and he parked the truck but while doing this the container overturned.
According to police the contents of the container also spilled onto the road and culvert.
Police are requesting people not to swim or use the waters near Lami Bridge close to R.B Patel Harbour Point.
