A 26-year-old man who was allegedly involved in an aggravated robbery case at Nakauvadra Road, Delainavesi was quickly apprehended by a youth who witnessed the incident on Saturday afternoon.
Chief of Operations ACP Rusiate Tudravu says the suspect had entered the shop of a 52-year-old and with a hammer allegedly threatening the shopkeeper before stealing two phones and a camera worth more than $1,100.
A youth who was in the shop overpowered the suspect and handed him over to Police where he was taken away to the Lami Police Station where he is currently being questioned.
Tudravu says the suspect was intoxicated during the time of the incident and they believe his daring daylight robbery attempt was all because he wanted to purchase more alcohol.
He says as Operation Yalodei is into its fourth day, they also wish to remind members of the public about the need to take ownership of their own safety.
Officers who are out patrolling late at nights have noticed that people are not taking their safety seriously.
Tudravu adds that early this morning in the hours of darkness, officers patrolling along Bureta Street had to secure a vehicle that had its boot open and contents visible to anyone passing the home where the car was parked.
Police are requesting everyone to take ownership of their safety and not allow things to attract or tempt criminal elements to strike.
