“Decide for yourselves who is truly meeting your needs”.
Those are the comments of Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama during the opening of the new $166,000 seawall in Matainoco village in Tailevu today.
Bainimarama said the government is working hard to improve the lives of every Fijian.
He said those who tell the people that they are disadvantaged, were concerned with their perks and privileges than serving the needs of ordinary people when they were in government.
He said people should examine the evidence for themselves, read our constitution and the guarantee it provides for the safety of i-Taukei land.
Bainimarama said he does not treat people like idiots by telling them lies and scaring them about things they have nothing to worry about.
He said he trusts the people to make up their minds for themselves.
He told the people in the Vanua of Naibati that everywhere he went to in Fiji, the traditional ceremonies and the strength and character of the i-Taukei people proves that his political opponents are lying that the i-Taukei way of life is under threat.
He added that the i-Taukei people own 91 percent of Fiji’s total land surface which is guaranteed and protected in our Constitution.
Meanwhile, Bainimarama said the new seawall in Matainoco village will not only protect the surrounding but it is also reclaiming low lying areas to enable them to build more houses.
He said the reclaimed land can also be used for recreation and any other purpose they may require now and in the future.
The Prime Minister said the people of Matainoco are no longer under threat from flooding and they are also protected from the effects of the high tides.
