Dakuidreketi and Bakani files appeal against their sentences with Fiji Court of Appeal

Former Native Land Trust Board member, Keni Dakuidreketi and former General Manager of NLTB, Kalivati Bakani.

Former Native Land Trust Board member, Keni Dakuidreketi and former General Manager of NLTB, Kalivati Bakani have filed an appeal against their sentences, with the Fiji Court of Appeal.

Keni Dakuidreketi's lawyer, Brian Keen also filed a bail pending appeal application.

The state has asked the court for 21 days to file the affidavit.

High Court Judge Justice Janaka Bandara sentenced 55‑year‑old Dakuidreketi to six years imprisonment with a non‑parole period of five years while 63‑year‑old Bakani was sentenced to four years imprisonment with a non‑parole period of three years, in August last year.

Bakani pleaded guilty to five counts of abuse of office while Dakuidreketi was convicted of five counts of abuse of office for the purpose of gain following a trial.

The matter has been adjourned to the 4th of March for hearing.
