A former accounts clerk of Nasinu who was serving his time in prison for the murder of his wife has been released.
Roneel Chand had appealed his conviction and sentence in the Fiji Court of Appeal. This was granted and a retrial was ordered.
Yesterday a nolle prosequi was filed and the matter was withdrawn by the DPP’s Office.
Chand was sentenced to life imprisonment on the 20th of November, 2013 by the High Court for murdering his wife in February 2011.
Chand had allegedly set his 26‑year‑old wife on fire when everyone was out of his house at Reba Circle in Nadera.
This was after a heated domestic argument.
Five days later, Chand’s wife had passed away.
