High Court Judge, Justice Salesi Temo today told a DPP lawyer that the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions is given millions of dollars every year by the government and they should improve their work.
Justice Temo raised this issue in the case of Rabindar Singh who is charged with manslaughter.
Singh who was a checker with the Dee Cee's Bus Services Limited in 2014 is alleged to have driven the company’s bus at Suva bus stand which hit a Nasese bus from the back.
A 46-year-old woman and a-three year old girl died in this accident on 6th May, 2014 where it is alleged that they were crushed between two buses.
DPP lawyer, Timoci Qalinauci by the help of a state witness was showing the court a diagram of the Suva bus stand as to how the accident occurred two years ago.
The diagram was drawn on a A4 size paper.
Justice Temo then highlighted that the diagram could have been drawn in a big white board which would have been clearer for him, the assessors and the respective lawyers.
The state witness had to come out of the witness box and had to go closer to the Judge, the assessors and the lawyers to explain the diagram.
Justice Temo told DPP lawyer, Timoci Qalinauci that this situation could have been avoided.
Rabindar Singh’s trial continues this afternoon.
We have sent questions to the Office of the DPP.
