A custodial sentence has been requested by the lawyer representing the Attorney General, in the Contempt of Court case against lawyer, Rajendra Chaudhry.
Chaudhry who resides in New Zealand was found guilty of contempt of court.
The lawyers from the Attorney General’s Chambers have asked Acting Chief Justice Kamal Kumar that the sentence should be 3 years imprisonment and Chaudhry should be fined $50,000.
They say that the sentence should reflect the seriousness of the offence adding that this will serve as a deterrent.
Chaudhry had made Facebook posts last year that were defamatory against the Fijian Judicial System which included the Chief Justice, the Chief Registrar and the Fijian Democracy.
Acting Chief Justice Kumar will deliver the sentencing on notice.
