“Doctors are no longer going to dictate to this court.”
These were the words of Suva High Court Judge Justice, Salesi Temo when Manoj Khera who is charged with four counts of obtaining money by false pretense and one count of money laundering failed to appear in court.
When the case was called in High Court today, Khera’s lawyer, Akuila Naco informed Justice Temo that his client is admitted at the Suva Private Hospital.
Naco also presented a medical report.
However, Justice Temo said that the medical report does not state that Khera is not fit to attend the court.
Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions, Michael Delaney said that it appears that Khera is desperate to avoid the trial and asked for a bench warrant to be issued against the accused.
Justice Temo issued the bench warrant and has also ordered the Suva Private Hospital doctor who gave the medical report to voluntarily attend the court this afternoon.
