The Suva High Court has today dismissed the application made by Steven Singh of the Fiji Labour Party who was seeking constitutional redress after he was disqualified from contesting the elections due to a conviction.
Judge Justice Kamal Kumar delivered his ruling this afternoon and said that the court does not have the jurisdiction to deal with the declaration sought by Singh and dismissed and struck out the application.
Justice Kumar also said that the court’s decision does not determine the eligibility or ineligibility of Singh to be a candidate for the 2014 General Elections as it is not the function of court.
He has also ordered Singh to pay $3000 in costs to the Office of the Supervisor of Elections and the Attorney General’s Office.
