Co‑operative businesses play a very important role in fostering inclusive growth in communities.
This was highlighted by Minister Lands and Mineral Resources Faiya Koya who has urged vegetable farmers to form co‑operatives.
While speaking at the ground breaking ceremony of Koronivia Vegetable Farmers' Cooperative Koya says this initiative is an example of government’s continued investment in the people adding that this is complimented by the support of the members of Koronivia Vegetable Farmers' Cooperative, one of the only 2 cooperatives in the central division.
Government als assisted the Koronivia Vegetable Farmers' Cooperative in purchasing a brand new tractor that will that will now ease the burden of farming for the Co‑operative members.
Government provided $50,000 to purchase the tractor while $22,000 was contributed by the community.
The Co‑operative was formed in 2010.
Co‑operative President, Paras Ram acknowledged government for the timely assistance adding that the farmers will work according to their 5-year development plan to achieve their goals, that is to be able to cater for the increasing demand of vegetables in the central division.
The Co‑operative has 14 commercial and semi commercial farmers.
