The Consumer Council of Fiji has received a few complaint against an online supermarket who have been receiving money from people and not delivering them with the goods purchased.
CEO Premila Kumar said these complaint are mostly from the rural areas.
Kumar said they have compensated one of the consumers who lodged a complaint against the online supermarket which has been operating in Fiji for some time now.
She said this shop has been operating via facebook, taking orders online for household items/groceries, using credit cards and promising to have the goods delivered at the physical address provided by those placing the orders.
She said concerned consumers most of whom live abroad say they only chose to trade with this online supermarket so they could gift household items to their loved ones in Fiji.
She added that goods were not delivered to the address given and all attempts to contact them were unnecessary.
Kumar said upon investigation they managed to locate one of the directors who lives in Australia and is a Fijian Citizen.
She said the director has now confirmed to the council that they have shut down their operation in Fiji following mismanagement by staff.
The Consumer Council of Fiji is urging people to come forward and lodge a complaint if they are also facing a similar problem.
