The Consumer Council of Fiji has raised concerns about the standard of basic services provided by some service stations in the Northern Division.
The council says one of the conditions laid by the Fiji Commerce Commission in return for increased fuel margins in 2012 was for the retailers to provide basic services such as water and air to all stations.
Chief Executive Officer, Premila Kumar says a survey of service stations for the first six months of this year shows that there have been no improvements in terms of providing basic water and air services in the Northern division.
It was also highlighted by the Consumer Council that one service station was found to be charging customers 50 cents each time they used the air pressure pump service.
The Council says that toilets in most Labasa service stations were found to be dirty and at times locked for customer use.
Fijivillage contacted the President of Fiji Fuel Retailers Association, Nasser Khan about these claims.
Khan says they have asked for the survey results to check if these service stations are members of the Retailers Association.
